Ready to Bring Deliberative Democracy to Your Program?
Our Toolkit has you covered.
The Carnegie Youth Deliberative Democracy Project curriculum supports diverse, youth-led teams as they:
Identify, define, and generate solutions to shared problems in modern schooling;
Evaluate divergent perspectives on the history and futures of American education;
Engage in democratic dialogue to codesign their dream school of the future alongside peers and adult mentors;
Solicit feedback and refine their models to ensure they meet the needs of diverse stakeholders; and
Build action plans to translate dreams to reality in their communities, today.
The Toolkit
The Toolkit captures the Project’s core program model, featuring facilitation guidance, lesson plans, scripting, and materials for five interactive sessions. The Toolkit is flexible by design and accompanied by all the materials you’ll need for implementation in your classroom, school-based club, or program.
Whether you’re a teacher, program coordinator, or youth leader, the Toolkit is for you!
The Blueprint Challenge
At the heart of every Carnegie Youth Deliberative Democracy Project workshop is the Blueprint Challenge, a collaborative project that prompts students to practice deliberative democracy to answer one core question: What would the school of the future look like if it was designed to be engaging, inclusive, and democratic—and to solve the challenges students experience in schools today?
Through a series of hands-on, creative activities, students collaborate in teams to develop a shared Blueprint—a vision, a plan, and a series of prototypes that illustrate and help communicate their dream school of the future.
